What brought the change of location from Austin to Antigua, Guatemala?
The Mesoamerica Center has recently acquired a new academic and conference center for Mesoamerican studies, the Casa Herrera, a beautifully restored 17th-century mansion located near the center of Antigua, Guatemala’s colonial capital. The Casa Herrera is a new research, conference and teaching facility operated by the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at Austin in collaboration with the Fundación Pantaleón. We hope to make the Casa Herrera the alternate location of the Maya Meetings and to open the meetings to other constituencies that are unable to come to the U.S. due to the visa regulations.

What is the weather like in Antigua during March?
March is considered the dry season in Antigua and temperatures could reach the upper 90s. Antigua enjoys nice weather all year long, due its location in relation to the tropics. Its high elevation keeps the city from getting too hot in the summer, and the average daytime temperature all year is in the upper 70s. Antigua’s nighttime temperatures sometimes drop into the 60s, requiring a jacket. Antigua does have a rainy season which lasts from May through September. During this season it rains nearly every day in the late afternoon and evening.

What is the exchange rate between Guatemalan Quetzals (GTQ) and U.S. Dollars?
